How to Beat Rajang in MH Rise

How to Beat Rajang in MH Rise

We love to hate Rajang and for good reason. When this angry monkey goes super Saiyan it can really mess you up.

This is Rajang’s monster breakdown.

General Info

He has 3 modes. Normal, Angry, and Very angry and since his move set is similar for all 3 so I’ll group them together and talk about the differences. One thing that’s good to know is you can knock it out of super enraged mode by doing enough damage to its tail.

Rajang is only weak to Ice and you’ll want to focus his head or its arms when it’s in the first two modes. When it’s Super Saiyan 2 its arms will get super armor so you’ll want to focus the head or back legs unless you have 2 levels of mind’s eye. Speaking of mind’s eye, that and tremor resist and thunder resist are some skills you might want to bring along for this fight. He has several moves that cause tremors which we’ll talk about later. I’ll be showing you how to dodge everything so you don’t need it.

Move Set

The two things you need to remember are

1)      Dodge under it’s legs for most moves

2)      Always have 1 wire bug in case you get grabbed

More on these in a minute

Roar [high lag]

He only has 1 roar but depending on how mad it is the roar will either stun you or knock you away.

I wasn’t sure if I should show you guys how to dodge his roar since pretty much every weapon has a counter now, but let me know if showing this kind of thing is helpful to you guys. So this is how you do it. Before it roars it’ll stand in place, put its head down, and then when it goes up you’ll want to dodge. This is definitely the hard way of doing it so an easier way is using a wire bug counter instead.

Laser [high lag]

Next we have the laser. This move is quick and has a lot of range. When it jumps on to its back legs it’s going to fire the beam right in front of him. Once it jumps into the air just make sure you are out of the way so that you don’t get hit. The only time this could be a problem is if it’s aiming at someone else, but the direction it’s facing when it’s up on its hind legs is where it’ll shot it’s beam.

Body Slam [mid lag]

If you can avoid the tremors after the body slam you can take advantage of this opening. Depending on how mad it is the tremor hit box is bigger but if you dodge to the side or through its legs you’ll be safe for all 3. The tremor will always be where it’s arms hit the ground so just avoid that. If you are in front if it when it starts this move jump to the side and don’t try to go under its legs.

Jumping Thunder Ball [mid]

This move is different for both enraged and normal but we’re going to dodge it the same way. When it first jumps it’ll only shoot the lightning ball or jump in that direction. As long as you move to the left or the right you’ll be able to dodge it.  For a lot of moves you just want to move out of their line of sight.

If you are trying to setup for a counter just know that when it’s unengaged it will fall down to where it was and if it’s enraged it will be near you or close to where it landed.

Side to Side hits [mid]

This move is pretty tough to dodge. It’ll do 5 punches in a row and you can avoid it if you are far way or if you’re close you can dodge towards it legs. If you try to dodge through the punches you’ll want to time it by jumping through its arms when it starts swinging to the other side. If you don’t you’ll get hit. Use a wire bug if you can to dodge it since it makes things a lot easier.

This move can combo in to the next move the backwards jump.

Backwards Jump [low lag]

This move has almost no lag time and is a good example of why you shouldn’t commit to big attacks against Rajang since it moves so fast. It’ll jump in place and then jump backwards. If you are close then you can dodge between its legs to avoid it.  Or you can dodge to the side.

Ground Claw Swipe [mid]

For this move it’s best just to get out of the way. It’s going to attack in front of it and the spin around. If you can’t get away I’ve found that if you move to the opposite side from where it’s hitting you’ll be safe. When it’s in super enraged mode it will jump at afterwards so be careful and dodge towards the arm that’s down.

Pulling a Rock out of the Ground

Rajang will pull a rock out of the ground but unlike in the older games he won’t through it at you. I think they are saving that for G-rank. For this move your best bet is to dodge under its legs since that’s a safe zone. If you can’t make it in time try to run directly away from him since the hitbox is pretty big.

Grab

You can dodge through this if you time it right but if it grabs you you’ll want to use a wire bug after it pins you to the ground. I keep 1 wire bug ready just in case this happens. If you don’t you’ll probably cart. If you’re playing with the sound on you’ll hear an audio cue so you know when to dodge as well.

Spinning Ground Attack

This move isn’t a problem if your close to it since you can just dodge into the safe zone under it’s legs but if you’re ranged you’ll want to pay attention to where it’s facing because it’ll spin in a straight line in that direction.

Running in a Zig Zag Pattern

It does this when it’s moving and like the Nargacuga it’s will always go left to right to left. If you stay on its right side when it’s jumping left or try to get behind it while it’s moving to the other side you’ll be good to go.

That’s it. If you do all of those things you’ll be able to take this thing down no problem. If you have any questions for me or want me to do a breakdown on a different monster let me know in the comments below.
